Emerge Somatics Level 1

A Foundational course prospectus

Emerge Somatics Level 1 is a 30-hour introduction to the foundations of Clinical Somatic Education based on the work of Thomas Hanna.

This course is designed for both personal growth, awareness and to deepen your understanding and knowledge of Clinical Somatic Education. It will prepare you to continue your somatic journey for personal development and interest or as a prerequisite for a teaching track with Level 2 and 3 courses.

Hanna understood the wisdom of the body often lies dormant — held outside conscious awareness, carried as tension or pain. As a student in my classes, you may already have experienced the subtle yet powerful effects of Hanna’s somatic movement techniques. Whether it was a lessening of pain or supporting your body's innate capacity to thrive, this course will expand your understanding of how and why clinical somatic education works. While this method can feel almost magical, his work is clearly grounded in his philosophy and neuroscience.

This course brings Clinical Somatic Education forward, honoring Hanna’s work and the lineage from which it grew, while maintaining the integrity in adaptation for the present day.

In this course, you will:

  • Learn to use your sensory motor system to increase your awareness

  • Address your own chronic pain and muscular imbalances

  • Create your own home practice

  • Explore the philosophy and science behind Thomas Hanna's somatic method

  • Develop your ability to pause, assess, and evaluate for intentional movement

All modules will be held in person at The Somatics Loft and Shakti Yoga, Maplewood, NJ
